Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Ādi Parva, in the section concerning the Lac House (Jatugṛha Parva), the chapter dealing with Duryodhana’s instructions to Purocana comes to an end—this being the one hundred and forty-third chapter.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a chapter-colophon, the verse itself teaches by framing the episode’s moral weight: calculated harm and deceit are presented as ‘instruction,’ highlighting how adharma can be systematized as policy. The epic invites the reader to note that such counsel initiates consequences that will unfold across the narrative.
The narration closes the chapter in which Duryodhana’s directives to Purocana—connected to the lac-house scheme (jatugṛha)—have been delivered. This is a formal end-marker indicating the completion of Adhyāya 143 within the Ādi Parva’s lac-house episode.
