Then, from the vessel of that wise sage, a son came into being. Because he was born from a droṇa (a vessel), he became renowned by the name Droṇa. Growing up with disciplined intent, he mastered the Vedas in their entirety, along with all the Vedāṅgas—signaling a life grounded in learning, restraint, and the ethical authority sacred knowledge was believed to confer.

The verse links birth, naming, and identity to a moral-educational ideal: true stature is established through disciplined study and mastery of sacred knowledge (Vedas and Vedāṅgas), which traditionally underpins dharma and social responsibility.
Vaiśampāyana narrates Droṇa’s extraordinary birth from a vessel associated with a wise sage, explains how this origin gives him his name, and notes his comprehensive education in the Vedas and their auxiliary sciences.
