Vaiśampāyana said: “One who is not endowed with godlike power cannot properly train the mighty Kurus in the science of weapons.” Reflecting thus, the best of the Bharatas—Bhīṣma, son of the Gaṅgā—resolved to seek an exceptionally capable teacher, so that the princes might attain outstanding excellence in martial discipline.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Powerful and potentially harmful knowledge like weapon-science must be entrusted only to a teacher of exceptional capability and self-mastery; competence and moral responsibility are prerequisites for transmitting force.
Vaiśampāyana narrates Bhīṣma’s reflection that ordinary instructors are insufficient for the mighty Kuru princes; therefore Bhīṣma resolves to find a supremely qualified martial preceptor to elevate their skill.
