Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial
तद् दृष्टवा महदाश्चर्य विस्मिता मुनिसत्तमा: । अधिकां सम ततो वृत्तिमवर्तन् पाण्डवान् प्रति
tad dṛṣṭvā mahad āścaryaṃ vismitā munisattamāḥ | adhikāṃ sma tato vṛttim avartan pāṇḍavān prati ||
Seeing that great marvel, the foremost sages were struck with wonder. From that time onward, their disposition toward the Pāṇḍavas became even more favorable—marked by increased affection and respect.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True excellence and dharmic conduct naturally evoke reverence in the wise; when sages witness extraordinary virtue or a remarkable event connected with the righteous, their respect and goodwill deepen.
After witnessing a great marvel, the assembled sages become amazed, and from that point they adopt an even more favorable attitude toward the Pāṇḍavas, showing heightened affection and honor.
