Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial
बभूव परमो हर्ष: शतशृड्शनिवासिनाम् | तथा देवनिकायानां सेन्द्राणां च दिवौकसाम्
babhūva paramo harṣaḥ śataśṛṅganivāsinām | tathā devanikāyānāṃ sendrāṇāṃ ca divaukasām |
Vaiśampāyana said: Great joy arose among the ascetics dwelling at Śataśṛṅga; likewise among the hosts of gods—together with Indra—who abide in heaven. Hearing the wondrous heavenly proclamation, they were filled with exultation, as if the cosmic order itself had been affirmed.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how a righteous, divinely sanctioned development brings joy not only to humans but also to sages and gods, suggesting that dharma resonates across the cosmic hierarchy and is affirmed through auspicious signs.
After a wondrous heavenly proclamation is heard, the ascetics living at Śataśṛṅga and the celestial hosts led by Indra experience great delight, indicating that the event being announced is momentous and favorable.
