Vaiśampāyana said: “O Janamejaya, having heard the words spoken by the ascetic sages, King Pāṇḍu became absorbed in anxious reflection—turning the matter over in his mind with grave concern about the right course to follow.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic ideal of kingship: a ruler should not act impulsively but should seriously reflect after receiving counsel from sages, weighing consequences and the right course of action.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration to King Janamejaya, Pāṇḍu hears the ascetics’ statement and is shown entering a state of deep concern and deliberation, indicating a turning point where he must decide how to respond.
