The Birth of Kṛpa and Kṛpī; Kṛpa’s Attainment of Astras

Vaiśampāyana said: “Let these two, unaccustomed to hardship, not be distressed. Do not proceed, O bull among the Bharatas. On this path only the wind can move, and even perfected sages may pass; how could these two princesses walk upon this king of mountains without suffering? O crest-jewel of the Bharata line, these two queens are not fit to endure such pain—therefore you should not go on.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A ruler should temper resolve with compassion and practical judgment: those unfit for severe hardship should be protected rather than pushed into suffering, even when the journey seems necessary.
Vaiśampāyana reports a warning addressed to a Bharata noble: the route ahead is so perilous that only the wind or perfected sages can traverse it, so the two royal women would inevitably suffer; therefore the addressee is urged not to proceed with them.
