Vaiśampāyana said: “O Janamejaya, even there, while the mighty King Pāṇḍu was engaged in the highest austerities, he became a welcome sight to the assemblies of Siddhas and Cāraṇas; merely seeing him brought them joy.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights that sincere austerity (tapas) refines a person’s presence and character: even powerful beings value and rejoice in one who is steadfast in disciplined virtue, suggesting that inner purity naturally earns respect without coercion.
Vaiśampāyana describes King Pāṇḍu living in the forest and practicing intense austerities; during this period, Siddhas and Cāraṇas gather around him and are pleased simply by seeing him, indicating his growing spiritual stature.
