yo vicintya dhiyā dhīro vyavasyati sa buddhimān | tad idaṁ dharmayuktaṁ ca hitaṁ caiva kulasya naḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “He who, being steadfast, reflects with his intellect and then resolves upon a course—he alone is truly wise. This course before us is in harmony with dharma, and it is also for the welfare of our family.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True wisdom is shown by calm deliberation followed by firm resolve; the best decision is one that aligns with dharma and promotes the welfare of one’s family or community.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a speaker endorses a proposed course of action by praising the wise person who thinks carefully and then decides, asserting that the present proposal is both dharmic and beneficial for their lineage.
