Now I shall declare the ṛṣi (seer), the chandas (meter), and the presiding deity of this mantra—this unsurpassed knowledge of liberation, directly realized, more secret than the secret—by which the paśu (bound soul) is led beyond the pāśa (bondage) to Pati, the Lord Śiva.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Linga Purana teaching to the sages of Naimisharanya, presenting mantra-vidhi details)
It frames Linga-oriented mantra practice as a disciplined, lineage-based revelation: knowing a mantra’s ṛṣi, chandas, and adhidevata is presented as essential groundwork for effective Śiva-upāsanā leading toward mokṣa.
Śiva is implied as the adhidevatā and the liberating Pati: the one who grants direct realization (sākṣāt) and releases the paśu from pāśa through supreme mokṣa-jñāna.
Mantra-vidhi fundamentals are highlighted—specifically the identification of ṛṣi–chandas–adhidevatā—supporting Pāśupata-oriented sādhanā where mantra is treated as a secret means to direct liberating insight.
