sarasvatyā mahādevyā nāsikoṣṭhāvakartanaḥ gaṇeśvaro yaḥ senānīḥ sa me pāpaṃ vyapohatu
May that Gaṇeśvara—whose nose and lips were cut by the great Goddess Sarasvatī, and who is the commander of the Gaṇas—remove my sin.
Suta Goswami (narrating a stuti/prayer within the Linga Purana’s flow)
It functions as a vighna-nivāraṇa and pāpa-kṣaya prayer—invoking Gaṇeśvara, the gaṇa-senāpati, to clear obstacles and impurity before commencing Śiva-liṅga worship.
Indirectly, it shows Śiva-tattva as Pati (Lord) operating through his gaṇas and their commander: divine order removes pāśa (bondage) such as pāpa and impediments, enabling the paśu (soul) to turn toward Śiva.
A preparatory stuti used before pūjā—seeking vighna-śānti and pāpa-nāśa; in a Pāśupata frame, it supports purification (śuddhi) so the aspirant can proceed in worship and discipline without obstruction.
