संक्रमे देवमीशानं दृष्ट्वा लिङ्गाकृतिं प्रभुम् मासेन यत्कृतं पापं त्यक्त्वा याति शिवं पदम्
saṃkrame devamīśānaṃ dṛṣṭvā liṅgākṛtiṃ prabhum māsena yatkṛtaṃ pāpaṃ tyaktvā yāti śivaṃ padam
At the time of Saṅkrama (the solar transit), having beheld the Lord Īśāna—Supreme Pati—manifest in the form of the Liṅga, one casts off the sins committed within a month and attains the auspicious abode of Śiva.
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages of Naimisharanya)
It teaches that mere darśana of Śiva as the Liṅga at Saṅkrama is a powerful purifier, capable of removing a month’s accumulated pāpa and orienting the devotee toward Śiva-pada (the Lord’s state/abode).
Śiva is presented as Īśāna and Prabhu—the sovereign Pati—who graciously becomes accessible through the Liṅga-form, enabling the bound pashu (soul) to loosen pāśa (bondage) through devotion and right timing.
A time-specific observance: Liṅga-darśana (and implied liṅga-upāsanā) at Saṅkrānti/Saṅkrama, emphasizing purification (pāpa-kṣaya) as a foundation for Pāśupata-oriented liberation.
