kumāryuvāca / tvameva mātā ca pitā tvameva bhartā ca sakhātvameva / tvameva putraśca gururgarīyānmitraṃ svasā tvaṃ mama vallabhaśca
The maiden said: You alone are my mother, and You alone are my father; You alone are my husband, and You alone my friend. You alone are my son and my most venerable Guru; You are my companion, my sister, and my beloved as well.
Kumari (the maiden)
Concept: Śaraṇāgati: the Lord alone is mother, father, spouse, friend, child, guru—sole refuge and completeness.
Vedantic Theme: Īśvara as the inner Self and ultimate support (ādhāra); worldly relations are contingent while the Lord is constant.
Application: Cultivate exclusive reliance on Bhagavān in joy and distress; convert every human bond into remembrance of the divine source.
Primary Rasa: shringara
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.19.54-57 (continuation of exclusive devotion and prayer for association with devotees)
This verse expresses complete śaraṇāgati (surrender): the seeker recognizes the Divine as the sole refuge fulfilling every role—protector, guide, and beloved—strengthening unwavering devotion.
Even when Garuda Purana discusses death-path realities and post-death consequences, the underlying remedy is inner alignment with dharma and devotion; this verse frames that remedy as total reliance on the Divine as one’s only support.
Cultivate steadiness by treating spiritual practice as your primary support—pray, study, and act ethically as if guided by a single highest guardian and teacher, rather than being pulled by many competing dependencies.
