O all-pervading Lord, Your body is filled with bliss—perfect in nails, perfect in beautiful hair, perfect in every hair and limb, perfect in virtues, and perfect in a noble nose. May Your broad and exalted chest shine forth, adorned with auspicious ornaments, beautified by the spotless Kaustubha jewel and by Lakṣmī’s radiance.
Garuda (Vinata-putra) praising Lord Vishnu
Concept: Saguṇa-upāsanā through detailed contemplation of the Lord’s auspicious marks and ornaments, especially Kaustubha and Lakṣmī on His chest.
Vedantic Theme: Meditation on saguṇa Brahman as a support leading to steadiness of mind (citta-śuddhi) and eventual higher realization.
Application: Use iconographic meditation (dhyāna-śloka style): visualize the Lord’s chest with Kaustubha and Śrī to stabilize devotion during japa/pūjā.
Primary Rasa: shringara
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: divine body-locus
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.18.54 (tulasī and sandal on the chest)
This verse presents Vishnu-stuti as a devotional focus: contemplating the Lord’s auspicious marks (like the Kaustubha and Lakshmi on His chest) cultivates bhakti and aligns the mind with purity and divine protection.
Although much of the Garuda Purana discusses dharma, death rites, and the soul’s journey, it also anchors those teachings in devotion to Vishnu; Garuda’s praise frames Vishnu as the supreme refuge behind all ritual and ethical instruction.
Use this verse as a short daily stuti: recite it with attention to virtues (guṇa-pūrṇa) and purity (vimala), then practice one concrete act of dharma that day—truthfulness, charity, or restraint.
