श्रीशुक उवाच एवं ब्रुवाणं मैत्रेयं द्वैपायनसुतो बुध: । प्रीणयन्निव भारत्या विदुर: प्रत्यभाषत ॥ १ ॥
śrī-śuka uvāca evaṁ bruvāṇaṁ maitreyaṁ dvaipāyana-suto budhaḥ prīṇayann iva bhāratyā viduraḥ pratyabhāṣata
Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King, as the great sage Maitreya spoke in this way, Vidura—the learned son of Dvaipāyana Vyāsa—replied with pleasing words and put forth his question.
Śukadeva introduces the next part of the narrative: after hearing Maitreya, Vidura responds with words meant to please and honor the sage, continuing their spiritual dialogue.
Because Maitreya is a revered saint and teacher; Vidura’s respectful, affectionate reply reflects proper disciple-like etiquette and helps deepen the flow of transcendental instruction.
Approach genuine teachers with humility and gratitude, and respond with thoughtful, respectful speech—this attitude supports learning, devotion, and steady spiritual progress.
