Uddhava Recalls Kṛṣṇa’s Mission: Earth’s Burden, Royal Dharma, and the Prelude to Dvārakā’s Withdrawal
शम्बरं द्विविदं बाणं मुरं बल्वलमेव च । अन्यांश्च दन्तवक्रादीनवधीत्कांश्च घातयत् ॥ ११ ॥
śambaraṁ dvividaṁ bāṇaṁ muraṁ balvalam eva ca anyāṁś ca dantavakrādīn avadhīt kāṁś ca ghātayat
Of demon kings such as Śambara, Dvivida, Bāṇa, Mura, Balvala, and others like Dantavakra, some the Lord slew with His own hand, and some He had slain by Baladeva and others.
This verse highlights that the Lord removes powerful demonic forces like Śambara and Mura to protect the world from adharma and to establish righteousness, demonstrating His role as the supreme protector.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī speaks this verse while narrating the Lord’s deeds to King Parīkṣit, summarizing how the Lord destroyed various demons.
The shloka teaches faith that divine order ultimately prevails—one should align with dharma and devotion, trusting that destructive tendencies (inner and outer) are overcome by the Lord’s protection.
