Citraketu’s Detachment, Nārada’s Mantra, and the Darśana of Anantadeva
स इत्थं प्रतिबुद्धात्मा चित्रकेतुर्द्विजोक्तिभि: । गृहान्धकूपान्निष्क्रान्त: सर:पङ्कादिव द्विप: ॥ १५ ॥
sa itthaṁ pratibuddhātmā citraketur dvijoktibhiḥ gṛhāndha-kūpān niṣkrāntaḥ saraḥ-paṅkād iva dvipaḥ
Thus enlightened by the instructions of the brāhmaṇas, King Citraketu came out of the dark well of family life, just as an elephant frees itself from a muddy reservoir.
It describes materialistic family entanglement that traps one in ignorance and repeated suffering, unless awakened by saintly instruction and devotion.
He was enlightened by the instructive words of the brāhmaṇas—Aṅgirā and Nārada—who redirected him from grief and attachment toward spiritual understanding.
By seeking guidance from sādhus and scripture, one can loosen unhealthy attachments, live responsibly, and prioritize bhakti over mere material security.
