Kuntī’s Prayers and the Neutralization of the Brahmāstra
Uttarā Protected; Yudhiṣṭhira’s Grief Begins
ते निनीयोदकं सर्वे विलप्य च भृशं पुन: । आप्लुता हरिपादाब्जरज:पूतसरिज्जले ॥ २ ॥
te ninīyodakaṁ sarve vilapya ca bhṛśaṁ punaḥ āplutā hari-pādābja- rajaḥ-pūta-sarij-jale
After offering the water and lamenting deeply, they bathed in the Gaṅgā, whose stream is purified by the dust of the Lord Hari’s lotus feet.
This verse states that even a river becomes purified by the dust of Lord Hari’s lotus feet, and bathing in such water grants spiritual cleansing and devotionally charged remembrance.
In the aftermath of the Kurukṣetra tragedy, they were overwhelmed by grief and compassion for those lost, and thus performed water-offerings and bathing while lamenting.
Seek purification through bhakti—regularly remember and serve Kṛṣṇa (hearing, chanting, pilgrimage, sacred bathing with devotion), and let devotion transform grief into surrender and spiritual clarity.
