The Dynasty of Vaivasvata Manu Begins — Ilā/Sudyumna and the Birth of Purūravā
तस्मै कामवरं तुष्टो भगवान् हरिरीश्वर: । ददाविलाभवत् तेन सुद्युम्न: पुरुषर्षभ: ॥ २२ ॥
tasmai kāma-varaṁ tuṣṭo bhagavān harir īśvaraḥ dadāv ilābhavat tena sudyumnaḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ
Pleased with Vasiṣṭha, the Supreme Lord Hari, the highest controller, granted the boon he desired; thus Ilā became a splendid male, the best of men, named Sudyumna.
This verse shows that when the Lord is pleased (tuṣṭaḥ), He personally grants the desired boon, demonstrating His role as īśvara, the supreme controller who responds to sincere appeal.
By the boon given by Lord Hari—when the Lord was satisfied—Sudyumna underwent the transformation and became Ilā, as stated directly in the verse.
Seek divine guidance with humility: this verse emphasizes that lasting solutions and true blessings come when one aligns with the will of the Supreme and earns His satisfaction through sincerity and devotion.
