Draupadī Meets Kṛṣṇa’s Queens — Narratives of the Lord’s Marriages and the Queens’ Bhakti
तद् रङ्गमाविशमहं कलनूपुराभ्यां पद्भ्यां प्रगृह्य कनकोज्ज्वलरत्नमालाम् । नूत्ने निवीय परिधाय च कौशिकाग्र्ये सव्रीडहासवदना कवरीधृतस्रक् ॥ २८ ॥
tad raṅgam āviśam ahaṁ kala-nūpurābhyāṁ padbhyāṁ pragṛhya kanakoijvala-ratna-mālām nūtne nivīya paridhāya ca kauśikāgrye sa-vrīḍa-hāsa-vadanā kavarī-dhṛta-srak
Just then I stepped onto the ceremonial ground, my ankle bells softly chiming. In my hands I bore a radiant necklace of gold and jewels, and I wore new, finest silks bound with a girdle. A shy smile graced my face, and a garland of flowers adorned my hair.
Śrīla Śrīdhara Svāmī states that Śrī Lakṣmaṇā was so excited by remembering how she obtained the Supreme Lord that she forgot her natural shyness and went on to describe her own triumph.
It describes a queen of Kṛṣṇa remembering how she entered the assembly, beautifully dressed and shyly smiling, carrying a brilliant jeweled garland as she approached Kṛṣṇa in loving devotion.
At Kurukṣetra, the queens meet and share intimate remembrances of how Kṛṣṇa accepted them, revealing the personal, affectionate nature of bhakti and Kṛṣṇa’s reciprocation with His devotees.
It teaches that devotion is not only philosophy but heartfelt offering—approaching God with sincerity, humility, and one’s best service, even in simple forms like remembrance and offering beauty and care.
