Akrūra in Hastināpura: Kuntī’s Lament and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Moral Instruction
तथापि सूनृता सौम्य हृदि न स्थीयते चले । पुत्रानुरागविषमे विद्युत् सौदामनी यथा ॥ २७ ॥
tathāpi sūnṛtā saumya hṛdi na sthīyate cale putrānurāga-viṣame vidyut saudāmanī yathā
Even so, gentle Akrūra, because my unsteady heart is biased by my difficult attachment to my sons, your pleasing words cannot remain fixed there—just as lightning cannot remain fixed in a cloud.
This verse acknowledges that intense attachment to one’s children can make the heart restless, so that even sincere, truthful counsel does not remain steady within the mind.
In her conversation with Kṛṣṇa, Rukmiṇī expresses her inner agitation and vulnerability—admitting that although she hears good words, her heart is unsettled due to strong affection for her sons.
Recognize how strong family attachment can disturb mental steadiness; then consciously anchor the mind through prayer, remembrance of the Lord, and wise reflection so loving care does not become anxiety.
