Yoga-māyā Appears as Durgā; Kaṁsa’s Repentance and the Demonic Policy of Persecuting Vaiṣṇavas
एवं चेत्तर्हि भोजेन्द्र पुरग्रामव्रजादिषु । अनिर्दशान् निर्दशांश्च हनिष्यामोऽद्य वै शिशून् ॥ ३१ ॥
evaṁ cet tarhi bhojendra pura-grāma-vrajādiṣu anirdaśān nirdaśāṁś ca haniṣyāmo ’dya vai śiśūn
If this is so, O King of the Bhoja dynasty, beginning today we shall kill all the children born in all the villages, towns and pasturing grounds within the past ten days or slightly more.
Because Kaṁsa feared the prophecy that Devakī’s child would kill him, his advisers urged a widespread massacre of infants to eliminate the potential threat.
“Bhojendra” refers to Kaṁsa, addressed as the chief ruler among the Bhoja dynasty.
Fear and insecurity can drive people toward extreme injustice; the Bhagavatam warns that abandoning dharma for self-preservation leads to greater sin and downfall.
