Ambikā-vana Śiva-pūjā; Nanda Saved from the Serpent; Śaṅkhacūḍa Slain
अलातैर्दह्यमानोऽपि नामुञ्चत्तमुरङ्गम: । तमस्पृशत्पदाभ्येत्य भगवान्सात्वतां पति: ॥ ८ ॥
alātair dahyamāno ’pi nāmuñcat tam uraṅgamaḥ tam aspṛśat padābhyetya bhagavān sātvatāṁ patiḥ
Yet even as the firebrands burned it, the serpent would not release Nanda Mahārāja. Then the Supreme Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, master of His devotees, came there and touched the snake with His foot.
This verse shows that even when ordinary measures fail, Kṛṣṇa personally intervenes—approaching the threat and neutralizing it—because He is sātvatāṁ patiḥ, the Lord of His devotees.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī narrates this incident to King Parīkṣit as part of Kṛṣṇa’s Vraja pastimes.
Do your duty sincerely, but cultivate steady reliance on Kṛṣṇa through prayer and bhakti—this verse emphasizes that divine help comes when one is helpless and devoted.
