dūṣyabāhulyam atyāvāpaḥ
When vulnerable/defective elements are in excess, the arrangement is called atyāvāpa (over-apportionment).
Anvāvāpa responds to a surplus of a single troop-type; atyāvāpa responds to a surplus of vulnerable/weak elements, implying a higher-risk composition needing special handling.
To force commanders to recognize and manage weak components explicitly rather than hiding them inside the formation.
