तत्तस्य मा भून्नरकं च गच्छेद् यो भर्तृपिण्डस्य कृते न युध्येत् इति ॥ कZ_१०.३.३१च्द् ॥
tattasya mā bhūn narakaṃ ca gacched yo bhartṛpiṇḍasya kṛte na yudhyet iti
—(saying) ‘Let that not be his lot; may he go to hell—he who would not fight for the sustenance received from his master.’
It frames military service as an exchange obligation: the ruler provides maintenance; the soldier owes combat performance—turning refusal into both contractual breach and moral offense.
