Sutra 56

भिषजः प्राणाबाधिकमनाख्यायोपक्रममाणस्य विपत्तौ पूर्वः साहसदण्डः कर्मापराधेन विपत्तौ मध्यमः ॥ कZ_०४.१.५६ ॥

bhiṣajaḥ prāṇābādhikamanākhyāyopakramamāṇasya vipattau pūrvaḥ sāhasadaṇḍaḥ karmāparādhena vipattau madhyamaḥ

For a physician who undertakes treatment without disclosing that it endangers life: if harm results, the first (lowest) sāhasa-penalty applies; if harm results due to professional misconduct/error in procedure, the middle sāhasa-penalty applies.
