The (principal) riding gaits/ways of moving a horse are: valgana, nīcairgata, laṅghana, ghoraṇa, and nāroṣṭra—used for mounted conveyance.
Because the state needed standardized technical criteria to train, test, and assign horses for military and transport roles, enabling consistent supervision and accountability.
