Freedom from Yama through Hari-śaraṇāgati
Sage Parāśara (in discourse to Maitreya)
Speaker: Parasara
Topic: Cycle after punishment: rebirth across divine and other wombs as śāstric conclusion
Teaching: Cosmological
Quality: authoritative
Creation Stage: Manvantara
Manvantara: Vaivasvata
Cosmic Hierarchy: Lokas
Concept: After experiencing post-mortem ordeals, beings re-enter the cycle of births, ranging from divine states to other wombs, as affirmed by the śāstras.
Vedantic Theme: Moksha
Application: Do not romanticize ‘higher births’; instead pursue liberation-oriented practice that ends cycling through all yoni-s.
Vishishtadvaita: Saṃsāra is a real, divinely ordered progression of embodied states; liberation is a distinct, higher telos beyond even deva-status, attainable by the Lord’s grace.
This verse states the scriptural doctrine that after experiencing torments, beings are released and continue transmigrating into new births, even into divine states, according to remaining karma.
Parāśara frames samsara as a lawful “revolving” through yonis: once a phase of suffering is exhausted, the jīva moves onward into other embodiments, governed by śāstric moral causality.
Though Vishnu is not named in this line, the teaching assumes a Vishnu-ordered cosmos where dharma and karmic law operate under the Supreme’s sovereignty, guiding beings through punishment, release, and rebirth.
