ब्रह्मचर्येण सन्तिष्ठेदप्रमादेन मस्करी । दर्शनं स्पर्शनं केलिः कीर्तनं गुह्यभाषणम् ॥ संकल्पोऽध्यवसायश्च क्रियानिर्वृत्तिरेव च । एतन्मैथुनमष्टाङ्गं प्रवदन्ति मनीषिणः ॥ विपरीतं ब्रह्मचर्यमनुष्ठेयं मुमुक्षुभिः । यज्जगद्भासकं भानं नित्यं भाति स्वतः स्फुरत् ॥

brahmacaryeṇa santiṣṭhed apramādena maskarī | darśanaṃ sparśanaṃ keliḥ kīrtanaṃ guhyabhāṣaṇam || saṅkalpo 'dhyavasāyaś ca kriyānirvṛttir eva ca | etan maithunam aṣṭāṅgaṃ pravadanti manīṣiṇaḥ || viparītaṃ brahmacaryam anuṣṭheyaṃ mumukṣubhiḥ | yaj jagadbhāsakaṃ bhānaṃ nityaṃ bhāti svataḥ sphurat ||
Der Bettelmönch soll im Brahmacarya feststehen — wachsam und ohne Nachlässigkeit. Sehen, Berühren, Spielerei, darüber reden, geheimes Zwiegespräch, Absicht, Entschluss und die Vollendung der Tat selbst — dies, so verkünden die Weisen, ist die achtgliedrige Vereinigung. Das Gegenteil davon — Brahmacarya — sollen die nach Befreiung Strebenden üben: verweilend in jenem selbstleuchtenden Glanz, der die Welt erhellt, ewig strahlend, aus sich selbst hervorleuchtend.
The mendicant should remain established in brahmacarya with vigilance and without negligence. Seeing, touching, dalliance, speaking (about it), secret conversation, intention, resolve, and the very completion of the act—this eightfold is declared by the wise to be sexual union. The opposite of that—brahmacarya—should be practiced by those who desire liberation: (abiding in) that self-luminous radiance which illumines the world, ever shining, self-manifest.
