Bondage and Liberation: The Prakṛti–Karma Wheel and Śiva as the Transcendent Cause
Verehrung, o Weise.
Sūta Gosvāmin
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: In Kāśī, Śiva as Viśveśvara/Viśvanātha grants liberation; the act of pradakṣiṇā around the liṅga and the sacred precinct is praised as especially dear, aligning with Kāśī’s emphasis on constant remembrance and ritual movement around the Lord.
Significance: Pradakṣiṇā and surrender of life’s dualities (dvaṃdva) cultivate śaraṇāgati; in Kāśī this is traditionally linked with purification and readiness for jñāna and grace.
It teaches Shaiva surrender: since all dvandvas arise within Śiva’s order, the devotee transcends bondage by offering both favorable and unfavorable experiences back to Śiva, cultivating equanimity and devotion.
Pradakṣiṇā around the Śiva-liṅga is an embodied act of bhakti: the devotee keeps Śiva at the center, symbolically placing all life’s opposites at His feet and affirming Him as Pati (the Lord) who grants grace and liberation.
Perform pradakṣiṇā as part of Śiva-pūjā (especially around the liṅga), while mentally offering both joy and sorrow to Śiva—ideally alongside japa of the pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
