ऋषभचरित्रवर्णनम् (Ṛṣabha-caritra-varṇanam) — “Account of Ṛṣabha’s Sacred Narrative”
Lord Shiva (speaking prophetically about future manifestations/roles)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Cosmic Event: yuga-cycle (Dvāpara→Kali) and avatāra/adhikāra-manifestation for transmission of śāstra
It presents Shiva as the timeless Pati who, out of grace, supports dharma in every yuga through appropriate instruments—such as Vyāsa-like arrangers of revelation and Sūta-like transmitters of Purāṇic wisdom—so seekers can still approach liberation through right knowledge and devotion.
By declaring purposeful manifestation in Kali, the verse affirms Saguna Shiva’s compassionate accessibility: through narrated scripture and living tradition, devotees are guided toward Linga-worship, mantra, and bhakti, which lead the mind from form to the formless (Nirguna) reality.
In Kali-yuga, the practical takeaway is śravaṇa (listening) and kīrtana (recitation) of Shiva Purana teachings along with japa of the Panchākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” ideally supported by simple Shaiva observances like Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa where appropriate.
