Upamanyu’s Longing for Milk and the Doctrine of Shiva’s Grace
Suta Goswami (narrating the boon/blessing within the Shatarudra discourse)
Tattva Level: pashu
Type: stotra
It expresses Shiva’s grace as liberation-oriented blessings: freedom from duḥkha (bondage-born sorrow) and movement toward the deathless, luminous state aligned with Pati (Shiva) in Shaiva Siddhanta.
Such boons are traditionally received through Saguna Shiva devotion—especially Linga worship—where the devotee is purified of pāśa (bondage) and gains inner tejas (spiritual radiance) and steadiness in dharma.
Steady Shiva-bhakti with Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), supported by simple dāna (charity) and cultivation of jñāna (right understanding), is implied as the practical path to these blessings.
