The Determination of Śiva as the Meaning of Praṇava
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Ardhanārīśvara
Shakti Form: Lalitā
Role: liberating
The verse presents Shiva as the luminous Pati whose inner heart-lotus awakens through subtle spiritual powers beginning with Śabda (sound), while affirming that liberation-knowledge is fulfilled only with his inseparable Śakti, Manonmanī, who carries awareness beyond the mind.
In Saguna worship, Shiva is contemplated as the radiant Lord whose presence is experienced within the heart (hṛtpaṅkaja) and whose form is never separate from Śakti. Linga-upāsanā similarly points from an external symbol to the inner awakening caused by mantra-sound (Śabda) and grace.
Mantra-japa (especially Śiva-mantras) leading attention into the heart-lotus, followed by meditation that quiets mental movements toward the mind-transcending state (manonmanī). This supports inner worship alongside traditional Shaiva practices such as bhasma and rudrāksha when performed with devotion.
