Da schien der Glanz der Sonne zu schwinden; die Himmelsrichtungen wurden von Dunkel umhüllt; Vögel schrien unheilvoll, und die Erde selbst begann zu beben.
Then the Sun lost his radiance, and the four directions were enveloped by gloom, the birds made fearful noise and the earth shook.
The cosmos mirrors moral disorder: when adharma peaks, nature itself signals imbalance, reminding that Dharma is harmony between conduct and world-order (ṛta).
As Rāvaṇa advances, ominous portents appear—darkness, cries of birds, and trembling earth.
The verse emphasizes moral seriousness: actions against Satya and Dharma have consequences that reverberate beyond the individual.
