Indrajit’s Brahmastra Rite and the Crushing of the Vanara Host
मन्येस्वयम्भुर्भगवानच्नित्योयस्यैतदस्त्रंप्रभवश्चयोऽस्य ।बाणावपातास्त्वमिहाद्यधीमन्मयासहाव्यग्रमनास्सहस्व ।।।।
manye svayambhūr bhagavān acintyo
yasyaitad astraṃ prabhavaś ca yo 'sya |
bāṇāvapātās tvam ihādya dhīman
mayā sahāvyagramanāḥ sahasva ||
Ich halte den selbstgeborenen Herrn Brahmā für unbegreiflich: Diese Waffe ist die seine, und ihre Macht geht von ihm aus. Darum, o Weiser, ertrage heute hier mit mir diesen Hagel von Pfeilen, mit ungetrübtem, ruhigem Sinn.
"Today, Indra, Vishnu, Mitra, Sadhyas, Vysvanara, moon and Sun will witness my immeasurable prowess as they witnessed the terrible prowess of Vishnu at the fire sacrifice of Bali."
Calm endurance aligned with truth (satya): recognizing the divine provenance of the weapon, Rāma urges disciplined patience rather than fear—steadfast dharma under trial.
Rāma counsels Lakṣmaṇa to remain composed and bear the ongoing arrow-hail linked to the Brahmāstra’s power.
Equanimity and leadership: Rāma stabilizes Lakṣmaṇa’s mind, modeling maryādā (measured conduct) amid crisis.
