कुम्भकर्णविबोधनम्
The Awakening of Kumbhakarna
तंराजमार्गस्थममित्रघातिनंवनौकसस्तेसहसाबहिस्स्थिताः ।दृष्टवाऽप्रमेयंगिरिशृङ्गकल्पंवितत्रसुस्तेहरियूथपालाः ।।।।
taṃ rāja-mārga-stham amitra-ghātinaṃ vanaukasaḥ te sahasā bahiḥ-sthitāḥ |
dṛṣṭvā aprameyaṃ giri-śṛṅga-kalpaṃ vitatrasus te hari-yūtha-pālāḥ ||
Als sie ihn auf dem Königsweg sahen — den Feinderschläger, von unermesslicher Größe, einem Berggipfel gleich —, gerieten die draußen postierten vānaras samt ihren Truppenführern plötzlich in Schrecken.
And then the Vanaras and the leaders of the Vanara army who were present looked at the immeasurably tall form of Kumbhakarna walking through the royal path and got alarmed.
Dharma in battle includes steadiness and courage; the verse shows the natural human (and vānara) reaction of fear when confronted by overwhelming force.
The vānara forces outside observe Kumbhakarṇa’s gigantic approach and become alarmed.
The need for courage and composure is implied by the contrast with their sudden panic.
