Indrajit’s Concealed Assault and the Fall of Rama and Lakshmana
तौतुक्रूरेणनिहतौरक्षसाकामरूपिणा ।असृक्सुस्रुवतुस्तीव्रंजलंप्रस्रवणाविव ।।6.45.21।।
tau tu krūreṇa nihatau rakṣasā kāmarūpiṇā |
asṛk susruvatus tīvraṃ jalaṃ prasravaṇāv iva ||6.45.21||
Niedergestreckt von jenem grausamen Rākṣasa, der jede Gestalt annehmen konnte, vergossen die beiden Blut in Strömen – wie Wasser, das aus zwei Quellen sprudelt.
Wounded by the cruel Rakshasas capable of changing form at their will, blood flowed from their body copiously like water from spring bringing out their vital life breaths.
By contrasting the brothers’ suffering with the attacker’s deceptive power, the verse points to a dharmic ideal: righteousness stands transparent and steadfast, while adharma relies on cruelty and disguise.
After the attack by the form-shifting rākṣasa (Indrajit), the brothers bleed profusely from their wounds.
Moral steadfastness under injustice: the righteous may be harmed by deceit, yet their cause remains untainted.
