Seine Pferde ließen unablässig Funken aus ihren Hinterpartien sprühen, und aus ihren Augen flossen ohne Ende Tränen—als entließen sie zugleich Feuer und Wasser in gleichem Maß.
His (Ravana's) horses were letting out fire sparks from their hips, tears, water, and fire from their eyes at a time, continuously.
The unnatural mixture of ‘fire and water’ symbolizes inner contradiction: adharma destabilizes even one’s own supports, turning strength into distress.
Rāvaṇa’s chariot-team exhibits bizarre, ominous behavior, adding to the accumulating portents of disaster.
Implied is composure and harmony (sāttvika steadiness). The verse depicts their opposite—agitation and imbalance—around the adharmic side.
