Ravana Hurls the Trident; Rama Counters with Indra’s Javelin
तिष्ठेदानींनिहमनित्वामेषशूलेनराघव ।एवमुक्त्वा स चिक्षेपतच्छूलंराक्षसाधिपः ।।।।
tiṣṭhedānīṃ nihaniṣye tvām eṣa śūlena rāghava | evam uktvā sa cikṣepa tac-chūlaṃ rākṣasādhipaḥ ||
„Bleib stehen, wo du bist, o Raghava – dieser Dreizack wird dich töten!“ Mit diesen Worten schleuderte der Herr der Rakshasas den Dreizack.
"O Raghava! Stay there. Right now, I will kill you with this trident." Having spoken that way, Ravana hurled the trident.
The verse contrasts dharma with violent arrogance: threatening to kill and relying on intimidation reflects adharma, where power is used without restraint or moral accountability.
Rāvaṇa challenges Rāma directly and throws his trident, initiating a pivotal weapon-exchange in the battle.
By contrast (implicitly), Rāma’s steadiness under threat is highlighted: dharmic courage remains composed even when confronted with boastful violence.
