Als ich ihr Klagen vernahm und wusste, dass jene beiden von Sītā getrennt waren, gefiel mir das Verhalten meines Sohnes nicht — zumal aus Liebe und Freundschaft, die ich zu Daśaratha hegte.
'Even after hearing the wailing of Sita, knowing that both (Rama and Lakshmana) are separated from her and considering my friendship with Dasaratha, I felt displeased with my son (as he did not make an attempt to rescue her)'.
Dharma includes fidelity to bonds of friendship and compassion toward suffering; ignoring another’s distress is ethically blameworthy.
Sampāti recalls hearing Sītā’s lament and recognizing Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa’s separation from her, yet feeling displeased with his son’s failure to respond fittingly.
Loyalty grounded in gratitude—honouring Daśaratha’s friendship by acting compassionately toward his son’s ordeal.
