The Slaying of Vali
स निश्श्वस्य महातेजा वाली परमरोषणः।सर्वतश्चारयन् दृष्टिं शत्रुदर्शनकाङ्क्षया4.16.14।।
sa niśśvasya mahātejā vālī paramaroṣaṇaḥ |
sarvataścārayan dṛṣṭiṃ śatrudarśanakāṅkṣayā || 4.16.14 ||
Schwer atmend, der strahlende Vāli, von heftigstem Zorn ergriffen, ließ seinen Blick nach allen Seiten schweifen, in Sehnsucht, den Feind zu erblicken.
The mighty Vali, breathing heavily, looked around to find where his enemy was.
The verse highlights how anger (krodha) disturbs discernment; Dharma requires self-mastery before action, especially in conflict.
Vāli, agitated and searching, looks around to locate the opponent he intends to confront.
Not virtue but a cautionary trait: uncontrolled wrath driving impulsive intent.
