Not explicitly stated in the provided excerpt (context needed from surrounding verses).

Concept: Puṇya is accessible through multiple dharma-supporting loci: sacred waters, sacred persons (brāhmaṇas), and sacred dwellings—holiness is a network, not a monopoly.

Application: Treat encounters with the virtuous as pilgrimage: serve teachers, support temples, keep your home as a ‘puṇyāyatana’ through daily worship, cleanliness, and hospitality.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A symbolic panorama shows many forms of holiness: rivers and tīrthas on earth, a well with a rope and bucket, a humble brāhmaṇa radiating calm, and above them the mid-space with celestial pathways and parvan markers. The composition feels like a sacred map where every element—water, person, and shrine—glows with quiet merit.","primary_figures":["brāhmaṇa (as living tīrtha)","pilgrims","temple deity silhouette (generic)"],"setting":"Composite ‘sacred ecology’ tableau: riverbank, village well, small shrine, and a sky band with celestial junctions","lighting_mood":"soft temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["earth-ochre","conch-shell white","leaf green","twilight violet","brass-gold"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: A multi-panel sacred tableau—river tīrtha, village well, brāhmaṇa seated in japa, and a small shrine—unified by gold leaf halos and ornamental borders; rich reds/greens, embossed details on vessels and jewelry, iconographic clarity with devotional warmth.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: Lyrical landscape divided into vignettes—river ghāṭa, well, hermitage; delicate figures and fine textile patterns; cool sky with subtle celestial symbols; gentle naturalism and refined faces.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: Narrative bands showing water sources, brāhmaṇa, and shrine; bold outlines, flat pigments; stylized well and river with lotus motifs; temple-wall storytelling composition.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: Ornate border with lotuses; central brāhmaṇa as ‘tīrtha-person’; surrounding circular medallions depicting river, well, shrine, and celestial parvan; deep blue and gold with intricate floral filigree."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Bhupali","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["soft water flow","distant birds","low bell drone","quiet japa murmur"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: उदपानाश्च = उदपानाः + च; विप्राश्च = विप्राः + च; पुण्यान्यायतनानि = पुण्यानि + आयतनानि (य्-आगम/hiatus smoothing).

FAQs

It groups together earthly tīrthas, “mid-space” or atmospheric sacred phenomena, wells/springs (udapānas), Brahmins (vipras), and other holy abodes (āyatanas) as loci of puṇya (religious merit).

It points to sacred elements not fixed to the ground—understood as moving or present in the intermediate realm (sky/atmosphere), broadening holiness beyond only terrestrial pilgrimage sites.

It encourages reverence toward multiple embodiments of sanctity—pilgrimage places, life-sustaining water sources, and learned virtuous persons—treating them as worthy of honor and as conduits of spiritual merit.
