Concept: Birth does not bind one to vice; dharmic excellence can arise anywhere, and honoring/sustaining ancestors (pitṛ-tarpaṇa, śrāddha) is a mark of godlike virtue.

Application: Perform śrāddha/tarpaṇa with sincerity; cultivate virtues that uplift family lines and community regardless of social labels.

FAQs

The verse emphasizes that virtue and righteous conduct (dharma) outweigh birth: even those born among Daityas can become exemplary through their actions and character.

It refers to performing ancestral duties—such as śrāddha, offerings, and righteous living—by which one benefits not only immediate forebears but an extended line of ancestors.

Do not judge by origin alone; noble deeds elevate a person. Fulfilling responsibilities toward ancestors and tradition is presented as a powerful mark of righteousness.
