Vyāsa

Concept: Constructive, society-serving action (setubandha) is a supremely auspicious dharma that generates kīrti and puṇya, validated by Brahmā’s authority.

Application: Support bridges, pathways, accessibility projects, and community infrastructure; interpret ‘setu’ also as building bridges between people through guidance and teaching.

Primary Rasa: vira

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: tirtha

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Vyāsa sits beside a riverbank āśrama, speaking with calm authority as visions of a grand stone-and-wood causeway appear in the air—workers placing boulders, pilgrims crossing safely, and the bridge shining like a line of dharma across waters. Brahmā’s distant, lotus-seated presence subtly blesses the undertaking, linking cosmic order to human service.","primary_figures":["Vyāsa","Brahmā (visionary presence)","workers/builders","pilgrims crossing"],"setting":"Forest āśrama near a wide river or sea inlet; visionary overlay of a causeway under construction","lighting_mood":"golden dawn","color_palette":["saffron","river blue","stone gray","forest green","sunlit gold"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Vyāsa with gold-leaf halo seated on a tiger-skin mat, gesturing toward a gleaming causeway scene rendered with embossed gold highlights; Brahmā on a lotus in the upper register; rich reds/greens, ornate jewelry on celestial figures, traditional South Indian compositional tiers.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: Vyāsa in a serene riverside hermitage with delicate trees and distant hills; a lyrical panoramic bridge-building scene across shimmering water; cool blues and greens with warm ochres, refined facial features and fine brushwork on stones and waves.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines of Vyāsa and the bridge tableau; stylized waves and rhythmic worker figures; Brahmā above in symmetrical icon form; saturated reds/yellows/greens with temple-wall gravitas.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central dharma-bridge motif framed by lotus and vine borders; deep blue water filled with stylized wave patterns, gold accents on stones; devotional narrative arrangement with peacocks and floral ornamentation, emphasizing auspicious kīrti-dharma."}

FAQs

It frames the building of a setu (causeway/bridge) as a meritorious public act whose ‘fruit’ (phala) is spiritually beneficial (puṇya) and socially beneficial, and thus a form of dharma that also brings honorable renown (kīrtti).

Brahmā is invoked as the authoritative source: Vyāsa presents the forthcoming teaching as aligned with what Brahmā himself had spoken, strengthening the doctrinal legitimacy of the topic.

The verse suggests that lasting ‘fame’ is ethically grounded: renown is not sought through vanity but arises naturally from auspicious, beneficial deeds performed as dharma.
