The Origin of the Daṇḍaka Forest and Rāma’s Dharma-Judgment

Vulture vs. Owl

Narrator (contextual Purāṇic narration; specific dialogue pair not identifiable from this single verse alone)

Concept: In cosmic stillness (Vishnu’s yoganidrā), creation rests in seed form; the self-possessed state mirrors spiritual steadiness amid time’s vast cycles.

Application: Cultivate inner composure (kṛtātmatā) and disciplined rest; remember that pauses and ‘silences’ can be fertile, not empty.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: celestial_realm

FAQs

It presents a Purāṇic cosmology where creation and dissolution are cyclical and dependent on Viṣṇu’s transcendent state (yoga-nidrā), with Brahmā’s activity occurring within Viṣṇu’s encompassing reality.

Sṛṣṭikhaṇḍa emphasizes origins and cosmic processes; here, sleep (nidrā) and containment (entering the belly) symbolize phases of cosmic withdrawal and re-emergence centered on Viṣṇu.

It highlights inner steadiness and mastery of the self as a prerequisite for enduring vast cycles of time and for participating in cosmic duties without agitation.
