FAQs

The verse enumerates various legumes/pulses and related seeds (e.g., black gram, green gram, lentils, horse-gram, chickpea, hemp-seed), presenting them as a remembered set counted as seventeen.

Not directly. It functions more like an encyclopedic or dharma-oriented catalog of food items; any devotional or ethical application would depend on the surrounding passage (e.g., rules of diet, offerings, or purity).

It signals that these items belong to a fixed traditional enumeration. Without the immediately surrounding verses, it is unclear whether the count refers to pulses specifically or to a broader category being defined in the chapter.
