The Greatness of the Ancestors: Ekoddiṣṭa Śrāddha, Āśauca Rules, and Sapiṇḍīkaraṇa

शुभाशुभात्मकाः प्रेतास्तदन्नं भुंजते कथम् । पुलस्त्य उवाच । वसुस्वरूपाः पितरो रुद्राश्चैव पितामहाः

śubhāśubhātmakāḥ pretāstadannaṃ bhuṃjate katham | pulastya uvāca | vasusvarūpāḥ pitaro rudrāścaiva pitāmahāḥ

„Wie nehmen die pretas, Wesen von gemischt glückverheißender und unheilvoller Natur, jene Speise zu sich?“ Pulastya sprach: „Die Pitṛs sind von der Gestalt der Vasus, und die Großväter-Ahnen sind wahrlich von der Gestalt der Rudras.“
