माण्डव्या भूतियुवकाः शातका हेमतारकाः ।
यशोमत्याः सगान्धाराः खरसागरराशयः ॥
māṇḍavyā bhūtiyuvakāḥ śātakā hematārakāḥ | yaśomatyāḥ sagāndhārāḥ kharasāgararāśayaḥ ||

Lists like this preserve a Purāṇic ‘memory-map’ of the world. Even when identifications are obscure today, the intent is to portray completeness—no corner of the world is outside the narration of dharma’s arena.

Obscure compounds (e.g., kharasāgara-) often function as mythic-geographic markers: they hint at boundary-zones where the known blends into the wondrous, a typical Purāṇic technique to express cosmic vastness.
