त॑ दृष्टवा रोमहर्षो5 भूदूरुकम्पश्न मारिष । स तत्र सिंहसंकाशमनीकं व्यधमच्छरै:,मारिष! उस समय उसे देखकर मेरे तो रोंगटे खड़े हो गये और जाँघें काँपने लगीं; किंतु उस देवपुत्रने अपने बाणोंद्वारा सिंहके समान पराक्रमी दुर्योधन और उसकी सेनाको संतप्त कर दिया

Transliteration

taṁ dṛṣṭvā romaharṣo ’bhūd ūrūkampas tu māriṣa | sa tatra siṁhasaṅkāśam anīkaṁ vyadhamac charaiḥ ||

Translation

Als ich ihn erblickte, sträubten sich mir die Haare, und meine Schenkel begannen zu beben, ehrwürdiger Herr. Doch eben dort quälte jener göttlich Geborene mit seinen Pfeilen das löwengleiche Heer—Duryodhana und seine Scharen—und zeigte, dass wahre Tapferkeit andere festigt, selbst wenn sie zunächst Staunen und Furcht erweckt.
