उत्तरोपदेशः
Uttara’s Fear and Arjuna’s Martial Reassertion
परिवेष्टनमेतेषां क्षिप्रं चैव व्यपानुद । वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! अर्जुनके ऐसा कहनेपर कुण्डलधारी विराटपुत्र उत्तर विवश हो रथसे कूदकर शमीवृक्षपर चढ़ गया। तब रथपर बैठे हुए शत्रुनाशक पृथापूुत्र धनंजयने शासनके स्वरमें कहा--“इन धनुषोंको जल्दी वृक्षसे नीचे उतारो और इन सबका पत्रमय वेष्टन भी शीघ्र हटा दो”
pariveṣṭanam eteṣāṁ kṣipraṁ caiva vyapānuda
Vaiśampāyana sprach: „Entfernt rasch die Umhüllungen dieser (Bögen) und streift sogleich ihre Bedeckungen ab.“ Als Arjuna dies gesagt hatte, sprang Uttara, der ohrringgeschmückte Sohn Virāṭas, wider Willen vom Wagen und kletterte auf den Śamī-Baum. Da befahl Dhanañjaya, der Sohn Pṛthās, Feindbezwinger, der auf dem Wagen saß, mit gebietender Stimme: „Nimm diese Bögen schnell vom Baum herab und entferne ebenso unverzüglich alle ihre Blattumwicklungen!“
